Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
Best Wishes to Our Years 5 and 6 Students Heading to Canberra!
As we near the end of Term 3, I’d like to wish our Years 5 and 6 students all the best as they head off on their Canberra excursion later this week. What a fantastic way to wrap up the term with exciting learning experiences ahead!
A big thank you to Ms McGowan, Mr Munn, Mrs Kelly, and Mrs Ford for dedicating their time to accompanying the students and for being away from their own families to make this trip possible. We truly appreciate your efforts.
Have a wonderful time, everyone—learn lots and enjoy the adventure!
Calling All New Kindergarten Enrolments!
If you or someone you know has a child ready to start Kindergarten in 2025, now is the time to enroll! Kindergarten interviews, orientations, and information sessions will be taking place in early Term 4.
Please spread the word to friends and family who may be interested. Early enrolment ensures a smooth transition for new students and helps us plan effectively for the upcoming year.
For more information, or to begin the enrolment process, please contact our administration staff on 4443 4376.
Supporting Our Students Together
I’d like to kindly remind all parents and carers that any concerns or incidents involving students at school should be brought directly to us, rather than addressed with the students themselves. Our staff is trained to manage these situations in a way that ensures fairness and consistency for all students.
By allowing the school to handle these matters, we can continue to create a safe and respectful environment for everyone.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
The Power of Reading Together
As we continue to support our students' educational growth, I want to highlight the incredible benefits of reading with your children or encouraging older kids to read every night.
Reading regularly helps improve vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. It fosters a love for learning and can significantly enhance academic performance across all subjects.
For younger children, shared reading strengthens parent-child bonds and builds foundational language skills. For older students, independent reading encourages curiosity and self-discipline.
By making reading a daily habit, you contribute to your child’s success both in and out of the classroom. Whether it’s sharing a story before bed or setting aside time for independent reading, your involvement plays a crucial role in their development.
Thank you for your continued support in making reading a valued part of your child’s routine.
Changes to Student Email Use from Term 4
Starting day 1, Term 4, students will no longer be able to use their school email address (@education.nsw.gov.au) for gaming, instant messaging, social media, or similar platforms. This change is part of the NSW Department of Education’s efforts to ensure student emails are used only for educational purposes and to enhance online safety.
If your child has registered for any non-educational accounts using their school email, they must update their email address to a personal email by Sunday 13 October to avoid losing access
to these platforms.
Steps to follow:
These updates are essential for protecting your child’s online safety and ensuring proper use of school resources. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. This link will take you to the eSafety Commissioner for advice on keeping your children safe online https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/resources.
Good News Story
If you have a good news story about your child's outside-of-school achievements you'd like to share, please email a photograph or two and an explanation so we can add it to the newsletter. Please send it to tomerong-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au. We look forward to hearing about the wonderful achievements of our Tomerong Public School students!
Share our Space
Over the school holidays we will be ‘Sharing Our Space’. This will mean that the school grounds will be open to the public from 8am to 5pm each day from Saturday 28 September through to Sunday 13 October. Should you see anything at our school that needs reporting, please call school security on 1300 880 021.
Term 4
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 14 October, when Term 4 begins. Please note that there will be no staff development day on this date.
We hope you have a fantastic break, enjoy quality time with your families, and return refreshed and ready for the new term.
Be safe, have fun, and we can’t wait to see you all back at school!
Warm regards,
Rob Haigh
