Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Southern Stars Fundraising Raffle

I am thrilled to announce that our recent fundraising raffle for the Southern Stars has raised an impressive $2,790! What an achievement for such a small school.

A huge thank you to Mrs Jordon Betts, mum of Ivy, Atlanta and Jaxton, who did an incredible job organising all of the amazing prizes. Congratulations to all the winners who participated.

I would also like to extend my gratitude to Miss Christensen and Mrs Moore for their unwavering support of the Southern Stars. Your combined efforts have made this fundraising event a resounding success.

Well done, everyone!

Spelling Bee Finals

Last Wednesday, we held the highly anticipated Spelling Bee finals, and it was an event filled with excitement and tension. Our students showcased their impressive spelling skills, and the audience was absolutely amazing in their support and encouragement.

In Stage 2, the runner-up was Claire, and the winner was Ruby. For Stage 3, Arabella emerged as the winner, with Luke as the runner-up. Congratulations to all our participants for their hard work and dedication.

A special thank you goes to Ms Castle for organising this fantastic event. Well done to everyone involved!

Multicultural Public Speaking

Congratulations to Rosie, Halle, Beau and Liliana who represented our school at the Multicultural Public Speaking final in Week 8. We are so proud of their dedication, confidence and outstanding presentation skills.

School Attendance

I am pleased to share with you some encouraging news regarding our school attendance. Currently, our school attendance sits at 87.8%, which is above the state average. This is a testament to the dedication of our students and the support of our families. However, we believe there is always room for improvement. This year, we aim to raise our attendance rate to 89.6%.

Regular attendance at school is crucial for several reasons:

  • Consistent Learning - Regular attendance ensures that students do not miss out on critical learning experiences, helping them to build a strong foundation in all subjects.
  • Social and Emotional Growth - Being present at school allows students to engage with their peers and teachers, fostering important social skills and emotional development.

We appreciate your ongoing support in ensuring that our students attend school regularly and on time. Together, we can achieve our goal and continue to provide a positive and enriching educational experience for all our students.

Road Cross

I would like to remind everyone that Hawken Road, outside Tomerong Public School, remains extremely busy. For the safety of all, please use the designated crossing and ensure you closely supervise your children when crossing the road.

Additionally, the school organises a road crossing with students in the afternoon. Please remind your children to wait for the teacher before crossing the road for their own safety.

Relieving Principal

I will be taking leave during Week 10 of Term 2 and Week 1 of Term 3. In my absence, Miss Bec Christensen will be stepping in as the Relieving Principal.

Should you require any assistance or have any concerns while I am away, please do not hesitate to reach out to Miss Christensen directly at the school. She will be more than happy to help with any matters that arise.

As we approach the end of Term 2, I would like to extend my best wishes for a wonderful school holiday break. This is a perfect time for students to relax, have fun, and spend quality time with their families.

I hope you all enjoy this well-deserved break and create many happy memories together. Please note that students will return to school on Tuesday 23 July for the start of Term 3.

Good News Story

We are always excited to celebrate the achievements of our students, not just within the school but also outside of school grounds! If your child has a recent accomplishment or a good news story that you'd like to share with the school community, we would love to feature it in our upcoming newsletter.

Whether it's winning a sports competition, participating in a community event, showcasing their artistic talents, or any other noteworthy achievement, we want to hear about it! Please send us a photograph or two along with a brief explanation of your child's accomplishment so we can proudly showcase their success in our newsletter.

Sharing these stories not only celebrates individual achievements, but also inspires and motivates others in our school community. We believe that every accomplishment, no matter how big or small, deserves to be recognised and celebrated!

Please email your child's achievements to tomerong-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au. We look forward to hearing about the wonderful achievements of our Tomerong Public School students!

Have a great holiday.

Warm regards,

Rob Haigh

Week 10

It has been wonderful to see such amazing school spirit over the past few weeks in sport. Our athletics events were completed at school due to disruptions caused by the sink hole and poor weather. The sink hole meant that buses were not able to give us sufficient time at Sanctuary Point Oval to complete all of our events. Our Year 6 leaders had a great time helping run the events and I couldn't have done it without them!

Students who qualified for the Shoalhaven District Carnival will be given a DASH note on Thursday. This carnival will be held at Myimbarr Community Park, Shellharbour, on Wednesday 31 July, 2024.

Thanks Mrs Ford for capturing our kids in action with the camera. Photos of the events can be found on our school website https://tomerong-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/gallery.html.
