Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s hard to believe we are already in Week 10 and nearing the end of Term 1. We’ve had a busy term celebrating learning, dressing up, fundraising and getting sporty! Over the next couple of weeks students have lots of things to look forward to, including Hot Dog Day, Cross Country and the Anzac assembly.

Attendance

At the last school assembly, we announced our student attendance leaders. Arabella Giles and Orlando Bailie did an excellent job promoting school attendance and introducing our new whole school reward system for attendance.

Each fortnight, the class with the highest attendance average will be acknowledged and rewarded for their achievement. The class will select from a range of rewards and will also be presented with a trophy and certificate to proudly display in their classroom.

The class with the highest attendance average for the past fortnight was 3/4F. Congratulations!

You can help foster positive attendance habits by:

  • helping your child learn the importance of punctuality and routine
  • ensuring your child arrives on time from the start of the school day, ready to participate in learning
  • reducing disruption to learning where possible, by planning appointments outside of school time
  • promptly communicating any absence to the school
  • working with the school to encourage and support regular attendance

2025 Enrolments

It’s never too early to begin the enrolment process for Kindergarten students who will be joining us in 2025. If you know of any families with kindergarten-aged children who are in the catchment area to enrol at Tomerong Public School, we kindly ask you to inform them about our enrolment procedures and encourage them to get in touch with our school.

At Tomerong Public School, we pride ourselves on providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where young learners can flourish academically, socially and emotionally. Our dedicated staff are committed to ensuring that every child receives the support and guidance they need to reach their full potential.

If you have questions about the enrolment process or want to schedule a tour of our school facilities, please contact our office. We are here to assist you every step of the way and to welcome new families into our school community with open arms.

Cross Country

Next Tuesday April 9, we have our School Cross Country at Willandra. This is an exciting event for the whole school. Please complete the online consent form through the School Bytes Parent Portal. Parents and carers are welcome to attend on the day.

Anzac Day March

This year, the annual ANZAC Day march will take place on Thursday 25 April at Huskisson. Students joining us for the march should assemble on Hawke Street (West of White Sands Park) at 10am ready for a 10.30am commencement. This will be followed by a Memorial Service in Voyager Park at 11am. Students attending should wear their full WINTER school uniform.

School Holidays

Over the school holidays we will be Sharing Our Space. This will mean that the school grounds will be open to the public from 8am to 5pm each day from Saturday 13 April through to Sunday 28 April. Should you see anything at our school that needs reporting, please call school security on 1300 880 021.

Enjoy the end of term and have a happy and safe holiday.

P&C News

Volunteers and Coordinator for the Canteen Needed ASAP

For the last two Wednesdays of this term, we require a couple of volunteers. You can write your name on the list of the canteen door or email the P&C at tomerongpandc@gmail.com.

We are still looking for a new canteen coordinator to ensure the canteen can continue next term. The canteen coordinator is responsible for purchasing stock for the canteen in line with the Healthy Canteen Guidelines, organising the weekly roster of volunteer helpers and assisting the helpers. If this is something you may be interested in, please email the P&C.

Easter Raffle

A huge thank you to everyone who donated goods for the raffle and sold tickets. We fundraised just over $1000. Congratulations to all the winners also!

Fundraising Goals

At our latest P&C meeting, we discussed some fundraising goals for this year and beyond. At this stage, our short-term goal is to fundraise for a shade sail over the playground equipment and our long-term goal is to fundraise for an electronic sign. If you have other ideas for fundraising goals, please attend our next meeting on Monday 13 May at 6.15pm or email us at tomerongpandc@gmail.com.

Mother’s Day Stall

It’s that time of year again when we kindly ask for any donations of homemade creative gifts, new items to sell and empty, clean, used glass jars with lids for the Mother’s Day stall. We are looking at holding it in Week 2 of Term 2. Donations can be dropped into the container in the office foyer. We appreciate your support.

Did you know…?

The P&C will be donating a set amount to the school for sport, creative arts and wellbeing this year to supplement extra-curricular activities and has been assisting with extra-curricular activities for many years.

The P&C will also be funding a thank you treat for students who march with Tomerong Public School in the ANZAC day parade in Huskisson on ANZAC day in collaboration with the Defence School Mentor, Olivia Feige.
